Why our Occupational Health Assessments matter

Our occupational health assessment (management referral) service helps organisations better understand the factors impacting an employee’s health and work performance. By taking a biopsychosocial approach to occupational health assessments, we consider the biological, psychological and social factors that may be affecting an employee’s wellbeing, attendance and ability to perform their best. This enables us to create a clearer and more informed picture than a standard health assessment.

Backed by our trusted expertise, we look beyond clinical symptoms to identify the wider barriers that may be preventing someone from returning to work, remaining in work, or performing optimally. This enables us to provide tailored reports with proactive, evidence-based recommendations that support positive outcomes for both employees and organisations.

We deliver this through a multidisciplinary team of Occupational Health Advisors (OHAs), Occupational Health Physicians (OHPs), Mental Health Clinicians and Physiotherapists, allocating referrals to the most appropriate clinician based on their expertise and the needs of the individual. This ensures employees receive the right support at the right time, helping to facilitate safe, successful and sustainable work outcomes.

Our management referral process

  • Referrals are submitted through our secure online portal, Meddbase.
  • Referrers select the required service and choose either a video or telephone consultation.
  • Referrers provide relevant factual information, including any workplace adjustments already explored and details of available support services such as EAP access.
  • Supporting documentation can be uploaded directly to the referral where applicable.
  • Referrers access live clinical diaries to book the most appropriate appointment date and time, with instant confirmation provided.
  • We triage and occasionally escalate cases to a physician if medical sign off is required, or a face-to-face assessment where there is a clinical need
  • During the consultation, the clinician reviews the referral information, supporting evidence, and discusses the employee’s situation in detail.
  • We hold job descriptions; available company benefits and role restrictions in Meddbase to ensure that our clinicians are providing useful recommendations that can be accommodated
  • Following the consultation, the clinician prepares a comprehensive report containing evidence-based advice, recommendations, and workplace adjustment guidance where appropriate.
  • Referrers are notified automatically when the report is ready to access securely through Meddbase.
  • Attendance confirmations are issued automatically following appointments.
  • If an employee does not attend their appointment (DNA), the referrer is informed and advised on the available next steps, including cancellation, holding, or rebooking the referral.
  • Where an employee requests to review the report before release, the referrer will be informed and advised of the expected release timeframe.
